Tracker Construction Readiness Reviews

The Mu2e project received CD-3c approval from the DOE on July 14, 2016, allowing the project to start construction of the Tracker subsystem components. Before initiating fabrication, a Construction Readiness Review is required to confirm the soundness and completeness of the design, the procurement and quality assurance plans as well as the coherence of all interfaces with respect to neighboring sub-detectors. Peer reviews of the key elemenents of the project in advance of approval to construct is part of this process.
The primary purpose of the Mu2e tracker is to provide the primary momentum measurement of the outgoing electron in muon-to-electron conversion. The tracker must identify and reconstruct the trajectories of 105 MeV/c electrons while rejecting backgrounds and it must provide this functionality while located in the evacuated warm bore of the superconducting solenoid that provides a uniform 1 Tesla magnetic field. The tracker has a low material budget to reduce multiple scattering and a low outgassing and low leak rate requirement to reduce the impact on the vacuum system. These criteria set challenging requirements on the tracker subsystem.
