Calorimeter Review July 27-28, 2015

Documentation Home Page

The primary purpose of the Mu2e calorimeter is to provide particle identification in order to reject backgrounds from cosmic-ray interactions and antiproton annihilations. A second important function is to provide an efficient trigger for the experiment. The calorimeter also provides a redundant set of measurements that complement the information from the tracker.

The Mu2e Project completed its preliminary design phase and achieved its DOE CD-2/3b sign-off in March 2015. The project is expecting to receive CD-3c, the sign-off for construction of the detectors, in early summer 2016. In order to achieve this, the detectors must have mature designs and must have passed independent reviews to assess whether the detectors will meet the technical specifications and perform as required. Prior to the final design review of the calorimeter, there will be a technical review to evaluate the performance of the prototype crystals and to assess the progress of the photosensor R&D.
