The Mu2e project received CD-3c approval from the DOE on July 14, 2016, allowing the project to start construction of the Tracker subsystem components. Before initiating fabrication, a Construction Readiness Review is required to confirm the soundness and completeness of the design, the procurement and quality assurance plans as well as the coherence of all interfaces with respect to neighboring sub-detectors. Peer reviews of the key elemenents of the project in advance of approval to construct is part of this process.
The success of the Mu2e experiment critically depends on the performance of the Accelerator. Mu2e requires a high intensity, pulsed proton beam to produce an intense beam of low energy muons with the time structure required by the experiment. The muon beam on the Mu2e stopping target is derived from the decay of pions produced by the interaction of an intense 8-GeV kinetic energy proton beam with a tungsten target. The Mu2e Accelerator Infrasturcture consists of the following subsystems: Resonant Extraction, Delivery Ring RF, Mu2e External Beamline, Extinction System, Extinction Monitor System, Production Target and Target Handling System, Radiation Safety and Shielding, Beamline Instrumentation and Controls, Diagnostic Beam Absorber, and Proton Target Beam Absorber. The Accelerator systems represent significant cost, schedule, and technical challenges to the project. This web page collects information useful to the Construction Readiness Review committees.
